MEDITECH - Testing for NIL Value

I prefer concatenating a variable bills.claim with a period <.>; then comparing that combination bills.claim_. to a period <.> to determine whether a variable contains a value. For me ... bills.claim_.=. is easy to read and maintain, without thinking about what the code does.

Testing for NIL Value

However - if I were writing this in a MEDITECH CDS (Custom Defined Screen) Attribute, I'd be inclined to use 'bills.claim instead. When terseness is required, I'm willing to sacrifice some readability or style for functionality.
